A different shooting system (Request for comments)

Post by Massimo32 »

Here:

http://mio.discoremoto.virgilio.it/massimo_modica

you can download a demo of a different shooting system... very experimental.

It allows to do nice things (e.g. short lobs) but it's probably more difficult to master.

Keys:

movement: arrow keys / joystick
fire: comma
parameters up: 1,2,... 6
parameters down: Alt + 1,2,...6

tackling and heading! whoa!!! finally!

but the shooting.. like theres no sensitivity anymore. its allways a lob, I cant punch a direct fast shot. any tips?

dont know if it was intended but I love the function asigned to "," some kind of manual poofing the ball ahead

keep up the awesome job

Yes they work but are still very raw.

It's quite a different system, take time to learn it.
One difference is that if you press the button too long, the shoot fails.

must be a bug then, because I can't hold it down. it always shoots lobs immidiatelly, I can't even pass or make a different shot :(

Amazing, when the CPU will be able to properly manage this control system the game will be wonderful!

Any news on the implementation of this new control system? Will it be included in next beta? Will the AI be able to manage it?

At present development is quite slow, let's hope on Easter holidays.

If it works well in the game, yes.

We hope so.

Would it take a lot of time to provide us with a Mac (and maybe Linux) version of this experiment?

Thanks for making it available. Here is my feedback:

I don't really see how this is supposed to be implemented in future versions. Is Yoda Soccer not intended to be a game where you only need one key to shoot? Currently this experimental version uses 8*8*8*8*8*8=262144 "keys" (possibilities) for shooting.

Maybe I need a guide to understand it better. I think tackles and headers are already quite well done, but they could also work with the same key. The gameplay is totally unusable for me at the moment. For example I don't manage to fire a hard shot with rotation.

There are many good ideas that would be great to be implemented, but I really hope gameplay will be more similar to current releases of Yoda than to this experimental version.

I completely disagree: the implementation in the game of this actual new control and shooting system and proper management of it by the AI represents the real revolution that will transform the actual Yoda in an incredible game: the actual gameplay style is absolutely easy and for dummies, without any chance of creativity in the game style, this new system brings a more realistic and variable control system, much more need of skill in properly managing the game and an enormous potential. Please keep it on.
Currently this experimental version uses 8*8*8*8*8*8=262144 "keys" (possibilities) for shooting.
  What have you tested? There is one key for shoot, thanks God the shoot is a combination of shoot key and movement....
