Download:
http://mio.discoremoto.virgilio.it/yodasoccer
Notes:
- it's the beta 0.70 translated to blitzmax
- windowed mode restored
- passing improved
- various bug fixes
- mouse is disabled by default
- 'c' is the default fire key 1 (instead of Left Ctrl)
I've translated the entire game from blitzbasic to blitzmax.
The new language is very good and it will allow to implent new features (e.g. Unicode database), but now the hardware requirements are higher.
I don't know 'how much higher', it runs fine on a: Sempron 2400 / 512MB RAM / Radeon 9250. OpenGL drivers are needed (they are bundled with DirectX).
Ciao!

It doesn't work at all? Or it's slow?
Or the menu works and the match doesn't start?
The first preview did work?

I think that 1GHz processor is more than enough.
The problem is more likely the video card... blitzmax requires hardware OpenGL support.
I tested the game with a GeForce II Ti 64 and it's too slow. But any recent card (I have a cheap Radeon 9250) should work.
Anyway I will try to optimize the final beta in order to reduce the hardware requirements.

It's too slow, and i cannot play because i don't see the bottom selected.
0.70 is ok
My video card is: Matrox Millenium G450 dual Head.
It doesn't work neither

Hi,
The new version doesn't work. It doesn't give me the licence (black screen) and after one mouse click it gives me five white rectangles in a black field.
Previous beta versions (0.71 without match engine and 0.70) did work. Probably a problem of the video card. I would like to insist to solve this problem as I guess you would like to reach as many people as possible and not everyone has the most recent computer and video card.
Best regards, Guy

What's your hardware?

Unfortunately the problem is mostly due to the new programming language. Infact the beta 71 is only a translation, no new features have been added, and it seems to have much higher requirements than the previous one.
We hope this problem will be balanced by the benefits this programming language will bring: better graphics, better code control (less bugs), multiplatform, and many others...

Hi,
Hardware, always a good question. I'm not really interested in it, you know. The thing I know is that I tried it on three computers about three years old, all of them with Windows 2000 Professional. I assume the graphics cards aren't the best ones (two of them were used at work).
Nevertheless, I double-checked whether the previous version (without match engine 0.71) worked and indeed, it did. Therefore I was wondering whether maybe a slight change could help me (and others) out. Because I assume the only thing you added in this second preview was the match engine. Maybe you changed something in the initialisation (of the game)which isn't really necessary to change (to play a match) but which causes this problem.
Another thing I was wondering whether you use the demo version of blitzmax or the full version. Does this matter? Has the demo version all features in it?
I really would like to stress that requirements should be set to as low as possible. Not only for me, but I assume there exist a lot of people not having the most recent PC, and mostly those people are very pleased with old dos games like swos. Those people will also be thrilled by a new version like you are working on. Not the 3D-soccer-gamers with the most fancy graphics cards.
Greetings, Guy

The first preview was compiled using the blitzmax demo, the second one using the full version 1.10.

Try one of these two executables compiled using the previous (1.09) version of blitzmax:
- main_1.09_console
- main_1.09_GUI

Hi,
With both of the new executables the game worked. Thanks. I can play a match with it too. Not that I can win (for this moment), but I'm more a game-pad player than a keyboard player. When will it be possible to play with a game-pad? Or is this a hard issue?
Some remarks. The players look very small. This doesn't seem realistic to me, or is it? Maybe, I do not know for certain, but I think they aren't proportional to the field width. The flags do also not show up during the match (only a black rectangle).
In some weeks I have some spare time in which I will try to figure out how to add leagues or so. Or is this your first concern (i.e. will you be working on it now?). Can you re-submit the new source files (one of those leading to the new executables)? Thanks.
Have a nice weekend, Guy
